Our Standard MAT Practice Tests comprise 60 multiple choice questions in four test sections: pitch, melody, rhythm & texture. Each audio download test comes with a test sheet for students to complete and answer sheet for immediate results and can be purchased as single MAT Tests or in multipack format. We offer 3 test levels, Introductory, Intermediate and Higher each increasing in auditory challenge and Targeted MAT Practice Tests for further consolidation.
Introductory MAT Practice Tests
Our Introductory Level MAT Practice Tests are intended for students who are new to the secondary transfer Music Aptitude Test. Providing useful familiarisation in all 4 test sections with explanatory narrative and practice questions at the start of each test section to ensure students have understood what is required of them including test format. The slower pace of the music test examples played enables students to implement strategies and methods that work for them before moving onto the next test level.
Intermediate MAT Practice Tests
The Intermediate Level tests benefit those students who have gained some familiarity with the Music Aptitude Test and its format. The music test examples include a greater range of notes and variety of challenging intervals, more dissonance use of sounds and the introduction of microtones in Test 1 Pitch.
Our Higher Level MAT Practice Tests are intended for students who are confident in their approach to the Music Aptitude Test, have a good understanding of the format with well rehearsed methods in place and require further practise and consolidation. They are quicker in pace and are designed to be more challenging and stretch the student’s listening skills in all test areas.
Targeted MAT Practice Tests
Our Targeted MAT Practice Tests focus on the most challenging areas within each of the 4 test sections such as microtones in Test 1 Pitch and the similarities and differences in sound between 3 and 4 note chords in Test 4 Texture.
