In 2024, Tiffin School introduced a new sporting aptitude assessment and music aptitude assessment. 10% of places are awarded in September of each year to boys that demonstrate an aptitude in music (5%) or sport (5%).
Music Aptitude Test first part: Applicants complete a written assessment for the first part of the Music Aptitude Test. They will listen to a range of pitches, melodies, rhythms and textures and need to identify the differences between them.
Music Aptitude Test second part: During the second part of the music aptitude assessment applicants will hear a number of rhythmic and melodic patterns, each played twice by the examiner. Immediately after hearing, the applicant claps or sings the pattern they have heard. Applicants who prefer not to clap or sing may bring with them and respond using an instrument of their choice (a keyboard will be provided).

Our 11 Plus Music Test Programme of 11 Plus Music Test Workshops, Mock Music Tests and Music Aptitude 1 to 1 sessions would be a helpful and informative introduction to the first part of the Tiffin School Music Aptitude Test
Recommended resource second part: Students would benefit from regular home practice with our Enhanced Aural MAT Practice Tests. Recommended for those students applying to schools that use aural perception including melodic melody, pitch, rhythm and musical awareness tests as part of their music aptitude testing process.
