The Published Admission Number for year 7 entry is 243 pupils and 24 places are allocated on the basis of musical aptitude.

Part 1: Listening: There will be three main tests each on rhythm, melodic memory and listening and musical awareness. These tests are conducted on an individual basis. Pupils will be marked out of a total of 60 marks according to the accuracy of their responses. Both stages of each test are held on the same day.

Part 1. Listening – recommended resource: To prepare for the first stage listening test, students would benefit from regular home training practice using our Mill Hill MAT Practice Tests 1 & 2. These school specific tests are designed in the style and format of the Mill Hill County High School Music Aptitude Test. Our free Glossary of Musical Terms and Knowledge Organiser provides additional knowledge to answer questions in full and supplement learning.

Our Enhanced Aural MAT Practice Tests 1 to 4 provide further practice and consolidation. Test sections include: Pitch, Melodic Memory, Rhythm, Listening & Musical Awareness and a Supplementary Test Section.

Part 2: Performance: Applicants will be asked to perform one prepared piece on one instrument only or singing. There is no minimum performance length and the maximum performing time allocated is 2 minutes. There are no restrictions on the choice of instrument, voice or style of singing and all instruments are allowed. Marks are allocated on the basis of technique, expression, interpretation, accuracy and fluency.
